About Hereford
Despite what Richard I said in 1189, Hereford is not in Wales! It’s an English cathedral city majestically perched on the banks of the River Wye. It is the county town of Herefordshire.

Well known for its cider and cattle, did you know Hereford has given its name to two Parisian suburbs and been home to both saints and kings? Indeed, Saint Thomas de Cantilupe was a former Bishop of Hereford whilst King Henry the IV based his secure stronghold in Hereford to repel Owain Glyndwr.
Adding to the wider county’s impressive heritage are its alumni of famous former residents – Sir Edward Elgar, Nell Gwynne, David Garrick, Ellie Goulding and even (the voice of) Miss Piggy! But it’s the city’s current residents and visitors that bring it to life.
Hereford is home to the SAS, and they bring great pride to the city. It’s also home to arts and engineering students who bring flair and vibrancy. And, despite its ancient heritage the city is very young at heart.
If you’re after family-friendly fun, Hereford has 70 parks, cinemas, a theatre, golf courses, soft play areas, leisure centres, a thriving café culture and regular open-air markets.
Meanwhile, Hereford’s business districts and enterprise zone have inspired businesses to start up, relocate, grow and flourish, with the retail sector attracting increasing annual footfall.
Work, rest or play – it’s all here in Hereford!
