One of Hereford's most cherished and popular events in late summer returns to the beautiful River Wye every year.  On a sleepy Sunday afternoon during the August Bank Holiday, the BIG Hereford Duck Race charity fundraising event brings excitement and vibrancy to the city as 6000 yellow ducks are launched from Hunderton Bridge straight into the Wye. A sight to be seen indeed!

The event is scheduled for Sunday, 25th August 2024, @3.00pm at Hunderton Bridge in Hereford.

Run by the Hereford City Rotary Club, the event has become quite a tradition with locals and an eye-catching event for visitors. This procession of yellow bobbing ducks, some appearing entirely focused on the finishing line and others meandering aimlessly and without urgency, draws quite a crowd of cheering families keen to identify their ducks, shouting their encouragement from the river banks and willing them to win. Last year, duck race enthusiasts from as far away as Australia and New Zealand bought ducks online to support the event.

All funds raised from the event support local charities and good causes. Last year, beneficiaries were Herefordshire Home Start, Hereford Young Carers, the Lads Club Juniors Football team, Night Shelter for the Homeless, Marches Family Network, HPA Music Festival, Hinton Boxing Club, Hereford Community Farm, Save the Wye, and Hope Scott House.
