Must-Visit Attractions for Tourists in Hereford
Looking for things to do during your visit to Hereford? Here are our top five suggestions for tourists to get the most out of their visit, however short.
Hereford Cathedral
At the top of our list is of course Hereford’s famous cathedral. With a rich history that stems from its Saxon origins to the present day, there is lots to discover and admire, from its architecture to its stained glass and artwork. Tours and access to the Cathedral Gardens are available seasonally.
Mappa Mundi & Chained Library Exhibition
This impressive exhibition is accessed through the cathedral but is worthy of its own place in this list. Hereford Cathedral’s 17th Century chained library is home to 229 medieval manuscripts and over 1200 early printed books. The Hereford Mappa Mundi is one of the world’s unique medieval treasures; constructed on a single sheet of velum, this map shows how the world was interpreted over 700 years ago.
Hereford Museum of Cider
Hereford and the wider county have a strong cider heritage, which you can discover more about at the city’s Museum of Cider. Housed in what was once Bulmer’s original cider factory, a few minutes from the city centre, the museum is home to a collection of cider artifacts and memorabilia that tells the story of cider making across Britain and Herefordshire.
The Black & White House Museum
Any visitor to Hereford’s city centre will find their eyes drawn to the striking timber-framed building in the heart of High Town. Also known at the Old House, this museum tells the story of daily life in Jacobean times, when this house was part of a bustling street called Butcher’s Row. Displays are spread across three floors with a gift shop on the ground floor.
Church Street
Connecting the city’s main shopping area with the Cathedral is the picturesque Church Street. A historic thoroughfare filled with independent boutiques and eateries, this street never fails to capture the heart of visitors and locals alike. With tons of perfect photo opportunities, shops to explore and plenty for foodies, don’t miss out on this street.
